JAMB Directs Tertiary Institutions To Begin Admission Processes From August 21

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has directed all tertiary institutions to begin the conduct of the first and second choice admissions from August 21.

The board gave the directive in the 2020 admission guidelines released in Abuja by the board Spokesperson, Dr Benjamin Fabian.
Dr Fabian, in the guidelines, warned institutions against duplication of forms, adding that they should desist from selling forms for admissions into some listed programmes.
He urged institutions to advise candidates to apply for the programmes through its office, saying that all admission exercise must be conducted on the Central Admission Processing System.
“All applications for admissions to First Degree, National Diploma, National Innovation Diploma and the Nigeria Certificate in Education into full-time, distance learning, part-time, outreach, sandwich, etc, must be processed only through JAMB.
”Institutions that desire to place advertisement can do so by advising candidates who applied for the current Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination to change to their institution as the first choice rather than requesting the candidates to purchase another application form or apply.
”This is to prevent the issue of double registration which is a violation of the JAMB mandate,” he said.

School Classroom Turned Into Poultry Farm In Borno (Photos)

As students prepare to return to school across Nigeria, a sad development has happened in a public school in Borno state after a classroom meant for teaching and learning was turned into a poultry farm.

In some photos shared by a Twitter user, Olusegun Iselaiye on his page, a school was made into a poultry farm in an area in Borno state.
In the photos, desks and chairs used for learning are seen arranged into a corner as room is being made for the habitation of livestock. Tools naturally being used in a poultry farm are being utilized in the classroom that was initially built for learning.
Social media users have condemned the act calling on the government to act immediately as they ponder about the fate of educational institutions after the pandemic.

University Students Plan Protest Against FG If School Resumption Date Is Not Announced In 2 Weeks

University students in Nigeria have given the federal government two weeks to announce a date for school resumption in all institutions of learning, failure would result in serious protest.

Recall that Nigerian students have been at home since March after schools were shutdown owing to the outbreak of Covid-19.
According to LIB, the students under the umbrella of the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS), National Association of University Students (NAUS) and National Association of Colleges of Education Students (NANCES), at a virtual meeting, decried Federal Government’s approach towards resumption of learning institutions in the country.
They condemned the FG’s decision to cancel the 2020 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASCCE).
According to the students, WASSCE can be written while observing social distancing and other safety protocols.
“It is hardly feasible that coronavirus may be eradicated in a fortnight and after months of observing several safety measures, there are little or no gains in the results so far recorded.
‘Huge funds have been used to contain the spread of the virus, but we still have poorly equipped medical centres across the country” they said
The students also urged the Federal government to stop salaries of university teachers and other officials for advocating the continued closure of schools without proffering solutions to the Covid-19 pandemic.

There Is No Coronavirus In Nigeria – Nollywood Actor, Mr Ibu

Popular Nigerian Comic actor, John Okafor aka Mr Ibu, has declared that the life-threatening pandemic ravaging the world and claiming lives Coronavirus, is not in Nigeria.

In an interview with The Nation, the actor reportedly said he does not believe that COVID-19 exists in Nigeria nor does he care about its existence. According to him, he doesn’t know anyone who has been infected or has died from the novel viral disease.
“Nigeria, we are not supposed to be involved in this COVID-19, I see no reason why we should be involved. Only Nigerians in diaspora will have to partake in this devilish program.
We at home are oblivious, we are not supposed to be involved in any ceremony in trying to pretend or in trying to avoid. My brother, COVID-19 or 20 is not here, I don’t care. Why would China give us sickness and America embellish the technicality and then sell it to the world and people now begin to die when they know it’s killing. Thank God we have hot weather, the thing sef dey fear us.
I no dey fear anything I dey wear cloth waka on my own. Nothing dey here, nobody don die for this whole area, if you go another area nobody don die, go to stadium nobody don die. Let’s be sorry for ourselves.
I’m telling everybody not just the government this, say only what you know do not exaggerate it. Na we dey take our mouth call sickness by im own, sickness dey pass on its own but na we dey call am for Nigeria. You won’t see COVID-19 because it’s not here.”
On the rising numbers of COVID-19 cases in Nigeria and activities of the NCDC, Mr. Ibu said,

“You know anybody?
Have you ever attended any burial and they say na this thing kill am? have you ever gone to the hospital them say this person na Covid dey hold am? have you ever seen a family them say somebody na Covid na em kill am yesterday for family wey you know? You cannot, dem say dem say na em me and you dey hear. Even the sickness dey fear us.
“Are they not human beings, let them bring a picture of at least one person killed by COVID-19 and we find the family of such a person.
COVID whatever is not in Nigeria, we have hot weather here, the disease is scared of us just as we are scared of it so it can’t come here.
It has affected so many industries in the country, it has driven us away from work because of the lies and gossip. Na small thing e remain hunger for don kill me since if no be say better people dey wey dey give us money.”

FG Releases Guidelines For Reopening Of Schools

THE Federal Government, Monday, released guidelines ahead of the resumption of schools at every level in the country, but it failed to disclose when schools will resume.

The guidelines for the safe reopening of schools and learning facilities after the COVID-19 pandemic outlined actions, measures, and requirements needed for the safe reopening of schools.
The safe distancing measures in the new guidelines require that in schools and other learning facilities, learners should be supported to stay two meters apart.
“However, there are exceptions where the two meter rule cannot be reasonably applied and other risk mitigation strategies may be adopted. Examples include early years, younger primary school children, and those with additional needs,” the document read.
It added: “In these circumstances, risk assessments must be undertaken with the best interests of the learners, teachers, and other education personnel in mind.
“The scenarios require organising learners and children into small groups with consistent membership and compliance with the risk mitigation strategies. The membership of these groups should not change unless the NCDC public health guideline suggests otherwise. “
With the release of the document, the government will conduct a rapid assessment and determine the funding requirement for upgrading infrastructure and facilities (such as classrooms, furniture, WASH, and ICT facilities) to meet and sustain prescribed safe school reopening requirements.

The Federal Ministry of Education, in the guidelines it developed in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Environment, the Federal Ministry of Health and health safety experts, said it was time for it to plan and address the eventual safe reopening of schools and learning facilities.
It will be recalled that at the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria, schools and all learning facilities were closed in order to safeguard the health and general wellbeing of children, youths, teachers, and educational personnel.
Notable among the items in the guidelines are recommendations for the review of existing policies, practices, and risk mitigation strategies in the use of schools for other purposes, such as distance learning centres, temporary shelters, isolation, quarantine and treatment centres, markets, voting centres, among others.
The government, while noting that, “COVID-19 pandemic poses an enormous risk to the health and safety of learners, teachers, parents, school administrators, education practitioners, and the wider community”, regretted that, “More than 1.5 billion children and young people globally have been affected by school and university closures.

“As a responsible government, it is also our duty to provide comprehensive guidelines for a safe and hitch-free reopening of schools and learning facilities. We do so knowing that the health, safety, and security of learners,
teachers, education personnel, and families are priorities,” the government said in a guideline signed by the Ministers of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu and Hon Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba.
The guidelines dealt extensively on equitable plans for school reopening and operations.
The document focuses on attendance, social distancing, hygiene, cleaning, and non-pharmaceutical interventions for safe and healthy school activities and programmes.
Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, explained that the need to develop the guidelines became imperative, “Given that COVID-19 may be with us for a while. ”
He said the guidelines also highlight the urgent need to maintain and improve upon distance-learning programmes.
“Our aim is to identify and strengthen programmes that will guarantee the recovery of learning gaps resulting from the pandemic,” Adamu said, adding that “The guidelines were drafted in close coordination with health, environmental, education, and school safety experts who were tasked with the responsibility of charting a pathway for safely reopening our schools and learning facilities for quality teaching and learning. “
The approach, according to him, ensured that stakeholders provided regular feedback throughout the process.
“The Federal Ministry of Education expresses gratitude to the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19, the Federal Ministry of Health, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), and the Education in Emergencies
Working Group in Nigeria (EiEWGN) for their support and contribution to the development of the guidelines.”
While noting that, “Collaboration and partnerships are also a key focus of this document”, Adamu “thank the various stakeholders who have pledged their support and assistance toward the implementation of the guidelines.”

School Reopening: Private Schools Reject FG’s Decision, Get Set To Participate In WASSCE

The National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) and the National Parents-Teachers Association of Nigeria (NAPTAN) have said private schools are set to participate in the 2020 senior school certificate examination (SSCE) being conducted by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
It appealed to the federal government to reconsider its position on the matter.

Recall that the government had last week said no Nigerian school would participate in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) earlier scheduled to hold from August 5 to September 5.
The Education Minister, Adamu Adamu, said the atmosphere is not conducive for the May/June diet of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination to hold in the country.
But the stakeholders described the latest position of the government as inconsistent and confusing.
The minister had on Wednesday announced the reversal of the government’s earlier position on schools’ resumption, saying the atmosphere is yet unsafe for teaching and learning in the country.
Mr Adamu’s position was based on the rising cases of coronavirus diseases in the country, saying children would find it difficult to observe the required protocols including social distancing, to keep themselves safe if allowed to return to schools.
Speaking about NAPPS position, the president, Yomi Otubela, in a telephone interview with PREMIUM TIMES, said private schools across the country are set to participate in the examination, noting that the required protocols as recommended by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in the management of the coronavirus disease would be observed.
According to Mr Danjuma, the government’s inconsistency could be observed from the earlier position of the presidential task force on COVID-19 headed by the secretary to the government of the federation, which issued a directive on the possible resumption of schools.
He said; “Isn’t it the same government that made the earlier pronouncement that graduating classes should be permitted to sit their examinations? You see, everything is confusing. As parents, we are critical stakeholders in this whole issue but we are unaware of all these back and forth positions.
“We must note that apart from general papers such as Mathematics, English and Biology, we cannot have more than 200 candidates in most of the examination halls. Papers like Geography, Government, Literature-in-English, History, may not have more than 40 candidates in many centres. We are not saying schools should be opened for full classes, for God’s sake.
“But surprisingly, the same government has opened up markets, religious worship centres, airports, and also the interstate transits. So what are we talking about? If our children don’t sit for the SSCE, what will they hold to pursue admission into higher institutions? Surprisingly, most of these candidates had earlier sat for the unified tertiary matriculation examination. And JAMB has said results would be forwarded to the higher institutions by August.”
Meanwhile, WAEC has reacted on the development, saying it is within the legitimate power of governments of the five-member countries to make such decisions.
Earlier, in a telephone interview with PREMIUM TIMES, the WAEC’s Head of Nigeria’s Office (HNO), Patrick Areghan, said the examination body was still reviewing the situation and that it would make its position known soon.
He said; “We cannot make any categorical statement for now. We are operating in five-member countries and we cooperate with the government. We recognise the fact that the government has the right and power to take positions, and we cannot confront the government. We work hand in hand with the government.”

FBI ‘Kidnapped” Hushpuppi From Dubai – Pissetzky, Lawyer

A Nigerian man accused of multimillion-dollar fraud and money laundering by the United States was kidnapped by the FBI from Dubai, his lawyer says

Ramon Olorunwa Abbas – known to his 2.5 million Instagram followers as Ray Hushpuppi – and another cyber-heist suspect Olalekan Jacob Ponle (aka Mr Woodberry) were arrested in Dubai, where they lived, in June.
They then appeared in a Chicago court on 3 July.
The United Arab Emirates has no extradition treaty with the United States but Dubai police said they had been extradited to the US.
A spokesman for the US Department of Justice told the BBC that Hushpuppi was expelled from Dubai and was not extradited. He did not answer how he ended up in US custody.
What does Hushpuppi’s lawyer say?
Mr Abbas’ lawyer Gal Pissetzky told the BBC that his client, who posts on Instagram about his extravagant lifestyle, was not a criminal and had made his money legitimately.
“He is a social media influencer with millions of followers, with millions of people that respect and loved him, and he loved them, and that’s what he did. In today’s society, that’s a business,” he said.
Mr Pissetzky admits that he is not “100% familiar” with social media and his children consider him too old but he knows “that’s how people make money today”.
The Chicago defence lawyer’s argument that Hushpuppi was paid by designer brands for promotion has set the stage for what promises to be a long trial in American courts.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) accuses Mr Abbas, 37, of conspiring to launder hundreds of millions of dollars from frauds known as Business Email Compromise (BEC) and other scams.
Did the US act legally?
It is the latest high-profile fraud case involving a Nigerian national in the United States but his lawyer says the US had no authority to transport him from Dubai.
“In my opinion, the FBI and the government here acted illegally when they kidnapped him from Dubai without any legal process to do so,” Mr Pissetzky told the BBC.
“There was no extradition, there were no legal steps taken, there were no court documents filed, it was simply a call to the FBI. He is not a citizen of the United States, the US had absolutely no authority to take him,” his lawyer says.
But the Dubai police said in a Facebook post that the FBI director had thanked them for extraditing the two men.
“You’ll have to ask them about why they called it an extradition,” the US Department of Justice (DoJ) spokesman responded in an email.
In a statement about Mr Abbas’ initial court appearance , the DoJ said “FBI special agents earlier this week obtained custody of Abbas and brought him to the United States” without giving any further details.
Mr Pissetzky is not convinced.
“If Dubai wanted to expel him, they should have expelled him back to Nigeria. I’ve never heard of anything like that. That is the real story here.”

US Presidential Aspirant Says Coronavirus Vaccine Is Mark Of The Beast

US Presidential Aspirant Says Coronavirus Vaccine Is Mark Of The Beast

Posted by hypeman ayo on July 9, 2020,

American rapper and US Presidential candidate, Kanye West has expressed worry that coronavirus vaccine might be “the mark of the beast”.
He said this during a recent interview with Forbes.
“So when they say the way we’re going to fix Covid is with a vaccine, I’m extremely cautious. That’s the mark of the beast,” West said.

West revealed that he had coronavirus back in February:
“Chills, shaking in the bed, taking hot showers, looking at videos telling me what I’m supposed to do to get over it. I remember someone had told me Drake had the coronavirus and my response was Drake can’t be sicker than me!”
However, the Christian rapper believes that a coronavirus vaccine is an agenda to control humans and prevent people from making heaven.
“They want to put chips inside of us, they want to do all kinds of things, to make it where we can’t cross the gates of heaven. I’m sorry when I say they, the humans that have the Devil inside them. And the sad thing is that, the saddest thing is that we all won’t make it to heaven, that there’ll be some of us that do not make it.”
In the Christian eschatology, the mark of the beast is the mark put on the forehead of those who worship the beast, the symbol of opposition to God noted in Revelation 13:16:
“He required everyone–small and great, rich and poor, free and slave–to be given a mark on the right hand or on the forehead.” [NLT]
Kanye West believes that people should pray for coronavirus to be cured. “We pray. We pray for the freedom. It’s all about God. We need to stop doing things that make God mad,” he said.
Last week, West released a new song, “Wash Us In the Blood” along with an accompanying video which included imagery from the recent anti-racism protests.
The new track, the first released from his forthcoming 10th album “God’s Country,” features lyrics with heavily biblical overtones, in line with his musical turn to Christianity in recent years.

Hushpuppi Is Into Real Estate And not A Fraudster – Lawyer

The Legal representative to Ramon Abbass, popularly known as Hushpuppi, Gal Pissetzky of Pissetzky and Berliner has said the popular Instagram celebrity is not guilty of any of the charges levelled against him.

Speaking during an interview with Forbes, Pissetzky said “Ramon Abass, aka Hushpuppi is absolutely not guilty of all the charges they are accusing him of.
“Abass was running a very legitimate business and had a very legitimate Instagram account and did not take part in any scam or fraud. He is an entrepreneur, he has real estate business and was promoting brands, that’s how he was very legitimately making his money.”
Hushpuppi is currently being tried for fraud and several internet scams.
He was recently extradited to the US from the UAE for multiple charges of fraud

WASSCE 2020: FG Stops Resumption Of Schools

Posted by hypeman ayo on July 8, 2020,

The Federal Government has put on hold the planned resumption of federal schools, The PUNCH reports.

It has also stopped students from participating in the West African Senior School Certificate Examinations earlier scheduled for August 4 to September 5.
The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, disclosed this to State House Correspondents at the end of a meeting of the Federal Executive Council presided over by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).
The minister said federal schools would remain closed until it is safe to reopen them.
He also urged state governments that have announced school resumption plans to rescind such.
Adamu stated that the West African Examinations Council cannot determine the resumption date of schools for Nigeria.
He said he would prefer that Nigerian students lose an academic year than to expose them to dangers.

DSS Arrests EFCC Acting Chairman, Ibrahim Magu

DSS Arrests EFCC Acting Chairman, Ibrahim Magu

Posted by Hypeman ayo on July 6, 2020,

Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu, has been arrested by the Department of State Services.
He was arrested over allegations that he owns four properties and that he was allegedly transferring funds abroad through a third party.

The DSS in a 2016 report revealed that accused of living in a N40m mansion paid for by one Umar Mohammed, a retired air commodore who is allegedly involved in shady deals.

“In December 2010, the Police Service Commission (PSC) found Magu guilty of action prejudicial to state security – withholding of EFCC files, sabotage, unauthorised removal of EFCC files and acts unbecoming of a police officer, and awarded him severe reprimand as punishment.

“Magu is currently occupying a residence rented for N40m at N20m per annum. This accommodation was not paid [for] from the commission’s finances, but by one Umar Mohammed, air commodore retired, a questionable businessman who has subsequently been arrested by the secret service.

“For the furnishing of the residence, Magu enlisted the Federal Capital Development Authority to award a contract to Africa Energy, a company owned by the same Mohammed, to furnish the residence at the cost of N43m.

“Investigations show that the acting EFCC chairman regularly embarked on official and private trips through a private jet owned by Mohammed.
“In one of such trips, Magu flew to Maiduguri alongside Mohammed with a bank MD who was being investigated by the EFCC over complicity in funds allegedly stolen by the immediate past petroleum minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke.

“Furthermore, the EFCC boss has so far maintained a high-profile lifestyle. This is exemplified by his preference for first-class air travels. On 24 June, 2016, he flew Emirate airlines first-class to Saudi Arabia to perform lesser hajj at the cost of N2.9m. This is in spite of Mr President’s directive to all public servants to fly economy class.

“Magu has fostered a beneficial relationship with Mohammed who by his confession approaches clients for possible exploitation, favours and associated returns,” the DSS report said.

Magu is yet to be confirmed as the substantive chairman of the EFCC despite occupying the position in acting capacity for many years.
